Updated Review: Quince $50 Cashmere Sweater

When I originally tried the famous Quince $50 cashmere crew sweater… I was not impressed, as mentioned in my original Quince sweaters review. This stumped me after all the rave reviews I had seen, but perhaps the quality had declined as their popularity increased.

Now, a few years later, Quince has released a new cashmere blend that claims to be an improvement over the original. I decided to get the $50 cashmere crew and the fisherman crew and put them to the test!

What’s changed? According to Quince, their new Cashmere 2.0 has:

• 20% more cashmere
• Longer grade-A fibers
• Better resistance to pilling

$50 Cashmere Crew

Previously, I wasn’t a fan of either the long-sleeve or short-sleeve variation of this sweater. The fibers felt slippery, more similar to an acrylic than to cashmere. The material was also quite thin. Which wasn’t an issue in black color I purchased but would definitely have transparency issues in lighter hues. Ultimately, my takeaway was that it was worth the additional $25 (and now, $48) to purchase Naadam’s classic crew instead.

However! I’m much more impressed with the newer version. Unfortunately, I don’t have my original one to compare side by side (I returned it thanks to Quince’s generous return policy). But I could at least stack it amongst my Naadam and Everlane classic cashmere. It feels much more similar to the two brands, and most importantly, did not start shedding like the original formulation. I remember wiping my hand down the old version and visibly seeing fibers come off in my hand, even moreso when I tried washing it. That is not the case now, thankfully!

Verdict? I think this is a great cashmere basic for the price point. The Naadam sweater feels a bit more luxurious, with a slightly denser knit. But if you are looking for an affordable entry point, the Quince sweater is very solid – and I wouldn’t (and didn’t!) say this about the previous iteration.

Lastly, I decided to size up to Medium for a slightly more relaxed fit, and and it matches perfectly with my Cashmere Midi Skirt in the same color brown. So far, after ~3 wears, I haven’t noticed any pilling. As I wear it more over the next few months, I’ll be sure to update this post with any notable wear and tear.

Bonus mini review!

Similarly, I also sized up to a Medium in this sweater to get a more relaxed fit. While the sleeves run long on the fit model, I found that they were perfect for me! This sweater is not officially an oversized fit – so if you really want that look, I would even recommend sizing up two sizes.

The cashmere is soft and airy, but plenty warm as well. I wouldn’t wear this in windy or outdoor climates, but indoors or as a layer underneath a thicker coat.

I’ve worn this a ~5 times now and haven’t noticed pilling yet, but will update this post as I wear it more. I have the Fisherman Oversized Cashmere Cardigan, which I love to death but pills quite a bit – so I’m curious to see how this new formulation holds up.
