Revival Rugs Review: How Does It Compare to Ruggable?

After more than five years of daily use, we were ready to replace our Ruggable plush runner (reviewed here). This rug sits in the hallway leading to our now toddler’s room and both my husband and my offices – so needless to say, it got a lot of foot traffic over the years!

While we have several other Ruggable rugs at home (all reviews here), I was on the hunt for something longer and more padded. Our house’s interior insulation is… lacking, to say the least, and we wanted something softer and quieter underfoot to avoid waking a sleeping baby.

Enter Revival Rugs. Like Ruggable, they offer plenty of machine-washable designs, in addition to a wide range of unique vintage and handwoven rugs. I decided to give them a try because of the higher pile and softer feel underfoot, and purchased the Gambit washable rug. I initially ordered Evergreen, but it turned out to be a little too dark for our space, so I easily exchanged it for Camel instead.

And now, after six months, here are my thoughts!

What I like:

• The thicker pile makes the Revival rug feel more like a “real” rug. It’s much cozier and also quieter when it comes to footsteps.
• Many of their styles have fun textural patterns that feel a little more elevated, such as the Record or Soloba.

What could be improved:

• Even though we purchased the accompanying rug pad, every two days or so I still need to readjust the top rug because it slips and exposes the gray pad underneath.
  • Ruggable rugs are basically impossible to slip like this because of the Velcro-like attachment to the base. In general, I also found that the entire Ruggable system stayed in place better.

Additional considerations:

• Technically, this rug is washable. That is true. However… I don’t think anything much larger than a 3′ x 5′ will realistically fit into a washing machine, even a commercial one. That being said, I like knowing that I can spot-clean it pretty freely without worrying about ruining the fibers, compared to a more traditional wool rug.

All in all, if you’re looking for an easy-maintenance rug that feels more plush and similar to a traditional wool rug, Revival is a great option. If you’re purchasing a narrower or smaller size for an area with lots of foot traffic, though, it may be worth adding a Gorilla Grip-style layer between the rug pad and the rug itself to help keep everything in place.
