Last month, I wrote a long overdue review of my 8×10’ Ruggable washable area rug. As mentioned in that post, I also purchased one of the newly released plush rugs in a runner size, which I’ve now had for over a month. If you are thinking of buying one of their Morrocan plush rugs, I hope you find this review helpful!
Design
Ruggable’s plush line comes in two white & black designs — a simple Diamond pattern and an Ornate pattern. I purchased the Diamond design in a 2.5’ x 10’ runner size for one of our main hallways. Originally, I actually purchased the shorter 7.5’ version, but when it arrived, realized how terribly I’d miscalculated the space. Thankfully, Ruggable’s exchange process is pretty easy, and I was able to quickly return and swap it for the longer version.
Overall, I like neutral patterns (if you can’t tell from my prior purchase), so I think the design is great and very on-trend. My only concern is whether it will get dirty over time, as I’ve placed it in a high traffic area. While we don’t wear shoes inside the house, I’m not sure if other wear & tear will show. Only time will tell – and I’ll be sure to update this post periodically!
Feel
This rug definitely feels fluffy — it’s not as substantial as an old sheepskin rug I have, but I wouldn’t expect it to be given its materials. Because it’s a thicker rug overall, I decided to forgo the attached rug pad. I purchased a less expensive rug pad from Amazon, which has worked out quite well. Does it feel super cushion-y? Definitely not – but that’s a trade-off I am willing to make for a rug that is machine washable!
After washing (more on that below), the texture did change slightly – the ‘fur’ is a little more clumped together. I actually like this more, as it looks more natural now.
Functionality
A+ here of course, given that this rug is machine washable. It’s a very quick and simple process for washing the plush rug, especially in the runner size, which should fit in all washing machines. So far, I’ve washed this rug once on a delicate cycle, and hung it to dry afterwards. Because the temps are still warm here, I placed this across two laundry racks in our garage and it dried in about 1 full day.
Verdict
Overall, I am a fan of the Ruggable plush line. This rug feels very cozy on the feet, and I like that I was able to get away with a simpler rug pad for half the price. If you’re looking for a machine washable fluffy rug, I definitely recommend giving this one a try.

Have you had any shedding with this rug?
Hi Chris – I haven’t at all! I do remember reading that in the earlier reviews, so hopefully this means they have fixed it. This runner is also in a high traffic area (I walk across it at least 15x per day), and I’ve had no shedding. Hope that helps!
How does the Amazon rug pad compare to ruggables classic and cushioned rug pad? I plan to put the this rug in my living room so I’m looking for more of that plush feel. Not sure which rug pad to get. Hehe. Thank for this review!
Hi Michelle! It’s a little thinner than the Ruggable pad, since it’s a webbed structure (if that makes sense) vs. a solid piece underneath.
If you’re using this for the living room, I’d recommend the Ruggable pad. However, if you want to get super plush you could layer an inexpensive Amazon rug pad underneath the Ruggable one – that would definitely feel cushioned!
I know yours is a runner, but if you sat on it with black pants on would you notice any shedding?
Hi Jennifer – I tested it out with a pair of black leggings, and there is some white lint that catches on. I hope that is helpful!
Do you have animals? I am replacing a shag rug that my cat has decided is a litter box. I really love this plush design, but want to be reasonably assured I won’t need to wash it every day.
Oh no! Unfortunately, I don’t have pets so I’m less helpful here. Some of my friends have dogs and the original (non-plush) Ruggables, but none with cats I’m afraid.
Does the plush rug shed when washed? I’m concerned about clogging up my washing machine.
I haven’t had an issue with shedding when washing – but to be honest, I have only washed it twice so far!
Thanks so much for this review. There isn’t as much info out there on the plush rungs. I’ve been trying to get a question answered about the plush rug and have had no luck, so am wondering if you might be able to help! I need to cover an area that is about 10 x 14 in my baby’s room and the largest plush size is 6 x 9. I’m wondering if, with the plush rug, I could lay two 5 x 7 rugs side by side and have a cohesive look. Or, will it be obvious that there is a seam? I’m hoping the plush-ness might spill out over the edges so that this would not be obvious, but I think the rug fibers might not be long enough (too bad they no longer carry the shage). Looking at your close-up picture, the edge of the rug looks fairly defined, so this might not work. What do you think?

As you can see, the edge is unfortunately obvious – like you thought, there’s an embroidered edge that the plush fibers aren’t long enough to cover!
I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to do that! You’re right, very obvious and very good to know. I love the idea of a washable rug in the nursery, but really want plush. I will have to think through this further!
