Girlfriend Collective Sweatshirt & Sweatpants Review

Over the last few years, Girlfriend Collective has branched out from activewear into loungewear & outerwear. As mentioned in my Black Friday recap post, I decided to finally give their sweatshirts and sweatpants a try during Black Friday sales. Yes, caving in after making it through 2020 and most of 2021 without buying any sweats!

Overview

Like their leggings (which I’ve reviewed here), Girlfriend Collective’s sweats are made from recycled materials, as detailed on their website:

Designed with 50% Texloop RCOT™ Recycled Cotton, made from fabric scraps found on cutting room floors, and 50% organic cotton, grown without chemical pesticides or insecticides.

I decided to try the: Classic Sweatshirt in Forest, Cropped Sweatshirt in Sycamore, and Classic Joggers in both colors. If you are looking for more neutral colors, it looks like they just added Ecru, a lovely cream color that I definitely would have tried if it were in stock at the time.

Their pieces typically retail in $78-$88 range, and some sweatshirts are still currently on sale for 30% off!

Fit

Girlfriend Collective leans towards being on trend, and as such, most of their sweatshirts are slightly oversized. I don’t love oversized tops, especially if they are more bulky / structured, so I opted for an XS in both sweatshirts and a S in the joggers.

First, the sweatshirts – both fit well, and I’m glad I sized down. The cropped version is almost a ‘regular’ length for my short torso. As you can see, there is no gap between the top of the sweatpants and the top. I appreciate the longer sleeve length, no cold wrists on this one! However, as feared, the drop shoulder seams make my shoulders look somewhat wide, so ultimately, I decided to return these.

The joggers fit great, which I took in the same size as their leggings. I love the flat waistband, which is super comfortable and provides hold without needing to tie the drawstrings. The length is perfectly full-length on my 5’4” self – these will likely be ankle / slightly cropped for taller folks.

Material

Their recycled fleece material is thick and cozy, which provides a nice structure to the overall look. Because of that structure, these would be great outside of the house and are not too college-dorm-y, if you know what I mean!

Verdict

Sometimes I’m a little hesitant when brands expand product lines, but I’m glad to say I am a fan! Even though I ended up returning both sweatshirts, it was purely due to personal style reasons, as the quality and material are great.
