Everlane Denim Szn: Denim Jacket, Cheeky Jeans & Twill Shorts

After Everlane launched its new Modern Denim Jacket, I decided to give it a try along with several other denim (and twill) pieces. I have now fully embraced WFH-friendly-but-100%-socially-acceptable loose fitting jeans, and was looking to add one more. While I won’t be giving away my skinny jeans anytime soon, I’m happy to have a variety of options to choose from. 

Without further ado, I present a mini-review with the following items:

• Everlane Modern Jean Jacket
• The 90’s Cheeky Jean
• The Original Cheeky Jean
• The Twill Short

Everlane Modern Jean Jacket in Stone-Washed Sky

True to its name, this jacket has a slightly oversized, cropped, straight fit. I tried this on my usual size, a Small. The denim is sturdy and maintains its structure, it’s not slouchy at all. While the quality felt great and the color classic, unfortunately I felt that it overwhelmed my frame. I’ve noticed that this is a general issue I have with many current denim jackets. The trend nowadays is oversized, which can make me look more top heavy than I actually am given my broader shoulders and narrow hips.

90’s Cheeky Jean in Patched Blue

This colorway is really fun – it reminds me of the Frankie B patchwork jeans from the late 90’s early 2000’s. But with a much, much more comfortable rise. I would have kept them if they weren’t so close in color to an existing pair of cropped, straight jeans I already have! The main difference between these and the regular Cheeky Jean is the fly detail and stretch. Everlane’s 90’s styles all have a button-fly instead of a zip and are 100% cotton with no stretch added.

These are the jeans I kept instead. I find them to be super comfortable and flattering – the material has just the right amount of stretch thanks to the 2% elastane. And the fit is great – no stretch or pull wrinkles, overall very smooth. Both these and the 90’s pair above are Ankle versions, which are a good length for my 5’4” self.

Twill Cotton Short in Bone

These shorts are even more comfortable than The Cheeky Jean with more than double (5%) the elastane content. I wanted to love these, but for some reason the whiskering wrinkles were very prominent when I tried them on (above). While it’s definitely exacerbated by the fact that they’re white (which shows every wrinkle, every bump), I think this is a style where a Curvy option would fit better. Sadly, they don’t have that fit (yet, I hope) – so they went back. I’d highly recommend giving these a try though, if you are looking for crisp, casual and comfortable all in one place.
